I caught this photo while visiting one of my favorite places -- Carmel, California. I spied this dad and his little guy sharing a special moment and knew immediately I would want to paint them.

I haven't posted in awhile.  I've been doing a little painting (not much) -- nothing finished to my liking.   So, I thought I'd share a few paintings that I did awhile ago.  This one is of Gino Hollander, a renowned artist now in his 90s-plus.  I was fortunate enough to meet him and his lovely wife, Barbara, through a mutual friend.  He took me aside and did a quick painting/sketch of me, which I've posted below.  Below that is the original photograph that I used for reference.  And here is his website:  http://www.hollanderart.com/  He's a fascinating man whose had a fascinating career!

Fruit Sculpture

This was painted from a photo that caught my eye in an issue of Bon Appetit magazine, advertising Vitamix, a blender.  I changed a few small things, ​but not much.  It was a good exercise and I enjoyed it.

Betty's Clown

​This puppet clown was given to my guy, Joe, by his mother.  Betty was a victim of breast cancer twenty years ago, so of course, anything of hers is treasured by her son.  I've always liked this guy and we keep him displayed.  Can't help but smile when he catches my eye.  And a small confession:  the "real clown" has checks on parts of his outfit which I didn't even attempt to incorporate in this painting.

Pair of Pears

These pears were a gift and came boxed with green tissue paper, which I staged on the blue dish for the painting. My original painting included the paper, but it looked too much like lettuce. So I changed the paper to a creamy tone and then it looked like dough. I wiped the whole thing, but this was over a period of time, so the pears survived the wipe and I liked them enough to have another go at it. This is the result. One of these days, I'll take the time to practice painting paper! I see some great examples of it on the Daily Paintworks website!

Indian Pitcher

​This is one of many Indian pitchers I own. The intricate etchings and style always catch my eye in the antique and vintage stores -- and now I have a collection!  Fun to paint, though I struggled with the purple background being too "shiny" and overshadowing the pitcher.  That made it hard to get a good photo.

I've had this little pewter pitcher for awhile now, and I always knew it would one day end up in a painting.  I am working on painting metals and really enjoyed this process.  The reflections are a lot of fun to capture as well.  I like how this one turned out.
